In June, I traveled to Finland on a Whiting Fellowship to research the life and work of Tove Jansson. Jansson was a fine art painter, muralist, author, illustrator, and cartoonist. I visited her studio in Helsinki, a permanent exhbition of her work at the Helsinki Art Museum, the Moominvalley exhbit at the Tampere Art Musuem, as well as her cottage on the island of Klovharun in the Pellinge Archipelago. This fall, I will include details of my research in a new course I am teaching: Comics and the Graphic Novel.
Below are some photos of Klovharun!
